Week 7 Fantasy Football Rankings: WR/TE

The NFL trade deadline is usually the most boring of all the major sports, but that wasn’t the case this week. Some big trades not only changed the fortunes of some NFL teams, but the fantasy football landscape. Are your ready for the changes?

Teams on bye week: Buffalo, Cincinnati, New England, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco

Wide Receivers

Could Impress: Brandon Lloyd. You don’t buy a new toy just to sit and stare at it. Lloyd is familiar with Josh McDaniel’s offense so it shouldn’t take him long to get up to speed. Sam Bradford has never had a receiver with Lloyd’s combination of size and speed. Even if Bradford can’t go, I still like Lloyd’s chances this week.

Could Disappoint: Vincent Jackson. He’s just the latest fantasy receiver to take a tour of Revis Island. Considering the Jets have been porous in the run game, don’t expect Philip Rivers to force it Jackson’s way. Good for Ryan Mathews, bad for VJax.

Keep an eye on: Torrey Smith. He’s got 4.3 speed and plays in an offense that loves to throw deep. He disappeared against the Jets, but many receivers do. Smith has good matchups four of the next five weeks and is available in more than 75-percent of leagues.

Injury Replacement: Darrius Heyward-Bey. Three straight games with more than 80 yards, Heyward-Bey will benefit from Palmer’s cannon of an arm. The Raiders will do most of their damage on the ground on Sunday, but when they do pass, it’ll be out of a play-action fake. That’s generally good for deep threats like DHB.

Fred Davis will be a top-10 TE the rest of the way

Tight Ends

Could Impress: Fred Davis. Chris Cooley will be out for a while, if not the season. I don’t expect Mike Shannahan to put too much on the shoulders of new QB John Beck, so there could be a number of underneath passes headed Davis’ way.

Could Disappoint: Jeremy Shockey. Washington is no slouch against the pass, and the Redskins pass rushers do a nice job of getting pressure on the quarterback. Shockey is second on the depth chart, and won’t likely repeat his 4 catch, 60 yard performance from last week.

Keep an eye on: Kyle Rudolph. Listen, sometimes the best fantasy football moves are the ones that don’t make a ton of sense at first. Christian Ponder is the new guy under center. The Vikings coaching staff will call a number of quick, controlled, high-percentage passes to help build Ponder’s confidence. And in the “It Certainly Doesn’t Hurt Department”, Ponder and Rudolph are roommates and worked out together during the lockout. When things break down, who will have Ponder’s confidence more than Rudolph?

Injury Replacement: Lance Kendricks. The rookie is starting to become a bigger part of the Rams’ offense as they continue to find ways to get him into mismatches. St. Louis is going to be down against Dallas, and the Cowboys give up the 2nd most points to opposing tight ends, making Kendricks a good play.
